Mississippi Valley Veterans Memorial with solider viewingWelcome to the Mississippi Valley Veterans Memorial website.

Our goal with this project was to create a beautiful tribute to those who have served our country. We wanted to honor those individuals by listing their names on a memorial that was not only beautiful, but dramatic as well. This was designed to be a place to meet and to remember. The memorial is funded by area veterans, private donations and area businesses.

About Us

The Mississippi Valley Veterans Memorial was founded in 2011 with the mission to recognize the names of service men and women from the entire region and insure their place in local history. It was decided that the best way to honor these veterans would be by listing their names on a memorial that is not only beautiful, but dramatic as well; a place to meet and to remember.

In 2012, Leyda, Burrus & Metz Monuments, in Burlington, was contracted to design and build the $500,000 memorial, with funding from donations given by veterans, private individuals and area businesses. Committee members started the work to begin soliciting donors for this special project and veterans began submitting their names to be honored. Great River Health Systems kindly donated the land at 405 W Division as the memorial’s future home.

Construction on the memorial began on July, 4, 2014 with the ground breaking. Artistic scenes depicting each branch of service and the role it has played in peacetime and in war were all hand carved by local artist Roy Dixon. Many volunteers and businesses came together throughout June 2015 to bring the memorial to life.

The beautiful and dramatic Mississippi Valley Veterans Memorial was completed by dedication on July 4, 2015 as a tribute to all veterans in the Mississippi Valley. Hundreds of veterans and family members attended the event to honor and thank the men and women of the Mississippi Valley for their service to our country. Currently over 2,100 veteran names are inscribed on the memorial. Veterans will continue to be added and honored throughout the many years to come. The physical address of the memorial is: 405 W. Division Street, West Burlington, Iowa 52655.
